The Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church was organized in the year of 1876, by a group of members who wanted to serve God, but had no church or house in which to do so.

They prayed together…

and decided to hold their service under a bush tent. It was along the riverside of the Beach Hill Plantation that they placed their tent. In this group of members, they chose the Rev. Merchantson to lead them. After a period of time, they decided that they would move up a little further. It was on this same camp ground that they built their church, and called it the Macedonia Baptist Church.

“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Matthew 16:18-19

Honoring Our Past

Rev. Merchantson was the first Pastor of the Macedonia Baptist Church, He served faithfully and spiritually for 54 years, 1876-1930 the year in which he was called home from labor to receive his reward. The officers and members chose the Rev. Hamilton as their pastor in the year of 1930. MBC then called Rev. Warren and he served faithfully until his death. Again the members were like lost sheep, yet they held onto God’s unchanging hands and prayed until God heard their prayers and sent Rev. James Bryant into their midst. Rev. Bryant served the MBC Family faithfully until he departed this life on May 10, 1933. The church family then called Rev. James Jenkins to serve as pastor.

We’ve come this far by faith…

Rev. James Jenkins served with us until October 1954. On August 7, 1955, we called Rev. D.C. Grant in which he served us for 18 years. In 1971 under the leadership and guidance of Reverend Grant, the faithful worshipers were able to build a larger sanctuary. Reverend Grant was truly a man of God who loved Lord. Reverend Grant departed this life on March 18, 1973. Rev. James Jenkins, Jr. was standing by, ready and willing to carry out the Lord’s commands. The Late Deacon Joseph Bright assisted him during this transition. In the same year, Rev. Jenkins was installed as the Pastor of this great church.

He has also baptized, christened, married, and restored many members. His supportive and loving wife, Lady Annie Jenkins was with him at almost all of his engagements.

In 1983, the church was completely destroyed by fire, but the hearts of all kept serving and praising God. Through faith, the worshipers were able to rebuild in the year of 1986.

“…But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15 (NKJV)
